Let me start with a little reassurance: if you conceive within three months, that’s considered quick by any standard. But here’s the thing: there’s no right or wrong timeline. Your journey is yours.

For some, the idea of rushing feels overwhelming, and that’s perfectly okay. If you’d rather give yourself time to nourish your body before pregnancy, let me offer a fresh perspective: instead of focusing on speed, why not say, “This year, we’ll try for a baby.”


This approach lets you step into this chapter with intention and optimism. Taking a little extra time to prepare can make all the difference, physically and emotionally. Trust me, I learned this the hard way when I jumped in without giving my body the support it needed. That’s why I’m such an advocate for preparation: it’s an investment in yourself and your future baby.

When I was trying, my mind was constantly on: "I need to get pregnant now!" I lost sight of the fun, the romance, and the joy in the process. Looking back, I wish I had treated it as an adventure rather than a chore on my to-do list.


It helps if you can relax, have date nights, enjoy nice dinners, and shift your mindset from "goal-driven" to "enjoyment-driven." Women, especially those from professional backgrounds, tend to be very target-oriented. But trust me—this is one time when it’s better to let go of the agenda. 


Focus instead on boosting fertility with lifestyle changes and turning this experience into a beautiful adventure. This is what I would say to my younger self. This is also what I would like to have heard from someone when I first tried for a baby because I did it all wrong. That's why it took me three and a half years!

  2. Ditch harmful habits: When learning how to increase ovulation naturally, encourage your partner to stop smoking, reduce alcohol consumption, and eat less processed foods that can harm sperm health. Minimising or eliminating these can significantly improve sperm quality.

  3. Protect reproductive health: Advise your partner to avoid keeping his phone in his front pocket or exposing his reproductive area to excessive heat, such as from saunas or hot tubs.

Let’s take a moment to clear up some common misconceptions about ovulation. These myths can create unnecessary pressure and confusion, but understanding the truth will help you approach your fertility journey with clarity and calm.


Myth 1: Ovulation Always Happens on Day 14


This idea has been floating around for far too long, and it’s simply not true for most women. While a textbook cycle says ovulation happens on day 14, only about 5% of women actually ovulate on that specific day. 


For the rest, ovulation varies depending on your cycle length and rhythm. Don’t let this myth make you feel like you’re “off schedule.”


Myth 2: Egg Development Happens Quickly


Here’s a fascinating reality I wish more women knew: the egg you release during ovulation doesn’t develop in just one cycle. It has been maturing for months! My favourite explanation of this was written by Randine Lewis, PhD, in her book “The Infertility Cure,” in which she explains that ovulation is the final step in the long process of follicular development. That’s why nurturing your body every day with good habits rather than focusing on just one part of your cycle makes such a big difference.


Myth 3: It’s Only About Timing


I know how easy it is to get caught up in timing everything perfectly. Trust me, I’ve been there. But focusing solely on the moment of ovulation can make you lose sight of the bigger picture: your overall health. 


Going back to my mantra, ovulation is a process, not an event! In fact, ovulation is just one part of the process. Supporting your body with a balanced diet, good sleep, and stress management is what really boosts your natural fertility.


Myth 4: Natural Fertility is Out of Reach


Let me be clear—everyone can benefit from boosting their natural fertility. It’s not about being “perfect” but giving your body the right tools to thrive. Prioritising good sleep, nutritious meals, and gentle self-care isn’t just for women struggling to conceive; it’s for anyone who wants to feel their best and support their body’s natural rhythm.


Myth 5: Apps Know Your Body Better Than You Do


Fertility apps can be helpful, but here’s the truth: no app knows your body better than you do. The most reliable way to track ovulation is by charting your basal body temperature (BBT). It’s simple, empowering, and allows you to connect with your body like no app ever could. Now that we’ve cleared up some common myths about ovulation, let’s shift our focus to the practical steps you can take to support your fertility. As mentioned above, natural fertility is about creating balance in your body, and small, thoughtful changes can have a big impact.


Major factors you should consider are :


  • Start your cycle right by respecting your period as a time to rest and follow the logic: you are losing blood, so you want to nourish it. Eat foods rich in iron.

  • Get enough sleep and get at least 8 hours of sleep each night (this is crucial for hormone production).

Natural fertility is a delicate balance; the proper steps, like understanding your cycle and adopting supportive habits, will make a real difference.
